As a high-quality raw material for biomass carbonization, the characteristics of palm shell directly affect the carbonization efficiency and product value. In the raw material screening stage, the following dimensions need to be focused on:
1. Moisture content balance: The ideal moisture content should be controlled between 15%-25%. Excessive humidity (>30%) will prolong the pyrolysis time and increase energy consumption; too dry (<10%) will easily lead to violent pyrolysis reaction and affect the stability of carbon structure. Palm shells collected in the rainy season need to be pre-treated by natural drying or low-temperature drying.
2. Impurity content threshold: When the proportion of foreign matter such as mud, sand, metal fragments, etc. exceeds 5%, it will not only aggravate equipment wear, but also reduce the purity of biochar. It is recommended to use vibrating screens and magnetic separation devices for multi-stage sorting to ensure the cleanliness of raw materials.
3. Particle size uniformity: The particle size after crushing is preferably 2-5cm. Too large a difference in size will lead to uneven carbonization. Large pieces of raw materials are prone to the phenomenon of "cooked" with excessive carbonization on the outside and insufficient reaction on the inside, while too much debris may block the pyrolysis chamber.
By establishing a raw material grading and evaluation system, enterprises can accurately match carbonization process parameters, increase the biochar yield by more than 20%, and reduce the frequency of equipment maintenance, achieving a virtuous cycle of cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
