At what temperature does wood carbonize?

The carbonization temperature of wood depends on several factors, including wood type, density and moisture content, but is usually between approximately 400°C and 600°C. As the temperature rises, the volatile components in the wood evaporate and the lignin begins to break down, ultimately leaving behind a carbonaceous residue.

However, it should be noted that the carbonization temperature of wood is not the only definite value, but a range. Different types of wood may have different carbonization temperatures under different conditions. In addition, the carbonization of wood is also affected by factors such as heating rate, atmosphere (such as the presence of oxygen and carbon dioxide), and pressure.
