Activated carbon production process and process flow

 The production process of activated carbon mainly includes two categories: physical method and chemical method. The physical method mainly removes non-carbon elements in the raw materials through high-temperature treatment, and increases its pore structure and surface area through physical activation process, thereby improving the adsorption capacity. The chemical method generates activated carbon with special pore structure and surface area through the reaction of chemical agents with raw materials.

The production process of activated carbon can be roughly pided into raw material selection, carbonization and activation, finished product processing and other sections.

1. Raw material selection: The raw materials of activated carbon come from a wide range of sources, including high-quality coal, sawdust, fruit shells, coconut shells, etc.

2. Carbonization and activation: It is one of the key processes in the production of activated carbon. The non-carbon elements in the raw materials are removed through high-temperature treatment, so that the carbon particles form preliminary pores and have the original form of activated carbon. The carbonized material is further treated to increase its pore structure and surface area, thereby improving the adsorption capacity. The activation methods mainly include physical activation method and chemical activation method. The physical activation method uses water vapor, flue gas, etc. as activation gas, and contacts with carbonized materials at high temperature for activation; the chemical activation method uses chemical agents to react with carbonized materials to generate activated carbon with a special pore structure.

3. Finished product processing: The activated carbon is crushed and screened into products of different particle sizes through equipment such as vibrating screens. Products with qualified particle sizes are packaged and sold. In industrial applications, 500kg/ton bags and 25kg/bag bags are usually used for packaging. For powdered activated carbon, it also needs to go through two processes: grinding and packaging.

 Some activated carbons for special purposes also need to be further processed, such as acid washing, alkali washing and water washing, to reduce the ash content of activated carbon and avoid secondary pollution during use. In some application fields, activated carbon also needs to be impregnated with agents to improve its adsorption performance.

 In general, the production process and process flow of activated carbon are complex and delicate, and the quality and parameters of each production link need to be strictly controlled to ensure the performance and quality of the final product. At the same time, with the continuous deepening of scientific research and the continuous development of technology, the production process of activated carbon is also constantly improving and optimizing to meet the application needs of different fields.
